[So she's been awfully absent from the public view for a while now. Mixed in are the disappointment of not getting onto the draft but shrugging it off, and the whole stagnation she's been experiencing lately due to her inaction. This clearly needs to be fixed as soon as possible, and she has just the way to do it... So now she's out and about, ready to do a little snow shoveling since it's already piled up around the house.

...Suffice to say, she's not having a pleasant time of it. Housemates and visitors alike can see her trying to clear the general vicinity of the house.]

How the hell did this build up so quickly overnight?

[Once that's done and over with, she starts on her usual routine, albeit decked out in her suit of armor due to the chilly weather. One can find her running around the town, stopping now end then at various places--wherever people run into her is up to them.

Of course, there's always bothering her when she makes her voice post on the journals.]

Anyone have recommendations for a hot drink to counteract the winter? I don't feel like taking a cup of coffee to my desk today.

Well, if it's that good, then I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

Best thing for a cold night. Or day, really. There should be some in the cabinet over the fridge. Get some it out and start heating up some milk and I'll be home in about ten minutes.

[Ten minutes later, Luke enters the door with some bags of groceries and heads into the kitchen with a bit of a goofy grin. Hot chocolate is one of the things that makes him go more derpy than usual]

Morning Alia. Got everything ready?

[Dorky grin]

[She glances at him from the window, giving him something of a tired smile--physical, more than anything else. If he took notice of the piles of snow that were shoved off the way to the door, he might be able to tell why.]

You need only look at the table. [Sure enough, it's right there, just waiting for him to mix it all together.]

[He had noticed, but he wasn't sure who'd done it. Either way, it was his turn tomorrow :P

Enjoying the snow?

Better than I did the snowstorm-ridden weather on some of the planets I visited. It's definitely a welcome change of pace.

Yea, I know the feeling. This is a far cry from Hoth.

[He passes her a steaming mug, taking a sip from his own]

What's the worst weather you've seen?

[She takes it and has a seat, not breaking eye contact.]

Noveria's weather really sticks out for me. Though that probably isn't enough without a little context...

[He takes a seat and gives her an inquisitive glance]

I'm all ears.

Think of a place that's got nothing but snowstorms to offer. The only way to keep yourself cozy is to build a fully insulated shelter, and if you're not the only one taking up residence, it needs to be as big and accommodating as possible so people don't just freeze to death.

That's what it was like on Noveria. Heck, when I tried to look out a window or two it was straining to even try to see beyond the glass. [...Granted, it wasn't as bad as some of the other planets she came across, but really, if they wanted to discuss worst weather they'd be here all day. The planets that are effectively sphere-shaped volcanoes aren't any better, either.]

Sounds like Hoth, honestly. Nothing but a freezing ball of ice, and so cold at night that it freezes metal. Heh, I nearly froze to death there. And the wildlife is nothing to scoff at either.

[He shrugs, taking a long sip from the warm drink]

Windows, even transparasteel windows, were a liability for keeping heat in, so we didn't have them.

And here I thought I'd seen bad places.

[One long sip from her own cup, before she continues.]

If they were a liability, then exactly how did you stay warm?

Echo Base was built underground. Sealed up tight and hollowed out of the ice on the crust. No need for windows when you've got that. And it was largely hidden, masked as a pirate outpost.

[He shrugs]

And we had heaters, heavy coats, and hot chocolate.

Sounds cozy. Can't imagine that it'd get uncomfortable with measures like that.

Well, the wildlife, and the near absolute zero weather at night was bad enough.

And we did have to maintain regular patrols.
